Golden Eagles Complete A Weekend Sweep

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team got off to a slow start Saturday night, but the Golden Eagles were unstoppable once they got rolling.

The Golden Eagles shook off a first-set loss and roared back to beat San Francisco State, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match Saturday in Main Gymnasium. Cal State L.A. (12-3, 5-3 CCAA) picked up its second straight victory and completed a weekend sweep in Northern California.

Cal State L.A. started its trip with a win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday.

Gabriela Bulawczyk led the Golden Eagles with 19 kills and 21 digs. Ursula Vieira had 14 kills and five blocks and Lindsay Laakso had 11 kills and 18 digs. Keslie Brown had 42 set assists and two aces.

Cal State L.A. hit at a .256 percentage, while San Francisco State hit at just a .140 clip.

The Golden Eagles held a 52-40 advantage in kills and a 9-4 edge in blocks.

After dropping the first set, 25-19, the Golden Eagles took command and won the last three relatively easily. Cal State L.A. hit at a .237 clip in the second set, took the third set despite hitting only .185 and then captured the final set while hitting a robust .400 with 13 kills and only three errors in 25 attacks.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a big home match against Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos are in a tie for second in the conference, one game ahead of Cal State L.A. Conference-leading Cal State San Bernardino, which holds a one-game lead in a tightly-packed CCAA, will be the opponent in the Eagles Nest on Saturday night.
